A tradition of progress.
WE DISTIL SOPHISTICATION.
A BREWERY WITH SPECIAL PRIVILEGES.
The earliest days of our history optimally describe our mindset. Soon after our founder Gustav Joseph Ziegler had learned his trade as a master brewer, he realised that brewing only beer was not enough for him. Ziegler knew that the privilege to distil spirits had been granted to his parents’ farm many years ago. And he revived the privilege with tremendous success! Working with the same perfection he applied to brewing, Ziegler distilled spirits that soon gained fame far beyond his village.
It’s not surprising that Gustav Joseph Ziegler earned no fewer than three master titles: master brewer, master cooper and master distiller.
A TRADITION OF INNOVATION.
Our founder’s urge to try out new things and surround himself with creative personalities can still be clearly felt in our distillery today. We are not afraid of progress: we encourage it!
We achieved great success in the 80s, when we launched our noble wild cherry brandy Ziegler “No. 1 Wildkirsch”. And along with it, our brandies were soon served in Michelin-starred restaurants. The Ziegler Distillery subsequently established itself in the German gourmet landscape with our barrel-aged brandies and our three-litre bottles. We began distilling whisky in Freudenberg in 3 – the first single malt whisky from the Lower Main region. Our whisky is an homage to the history of our distillery, which began as a brewery.
